We propose you the very faithful reproduction of an extremely rare work: The
"Recueil de veûes de tous les différens
Bastimens de la mer Méditerranée, et de l 'Océan, avec
leurs noms et
usages » PAR P. J. GUEROULT DU PAS, published in 1710; work without equivalent relating to
trade and fishing ships, neglected subject.
This continuation of engravings was carried out "with the
naturalness", the author representing with simplicity what it saw; this confers on its work the value of the authenticity. And fearing interpretations by an engraver, it carries out itself this work.
Thus originality of the subject, the time concerned, the real concern of realism, make the great interest of this invaluable collection.
The first part of the work is devoted to the "Various ships of the
sea Océane", thirty boards with sixteen representative of the "Small
ships of the Ocean" is added.
The second part relates to the "Différens ships of the Mediterranean" thirty boards.
On the whole 76 boards is 152 engravings testifying to the variety of
the marines of Europe in this time.
With this collection, Gueroult du Pas puts at our disposal a true illustrated
dictionary of approximately 80 kinds of ships. The realism of the representations makes it possible to appreciate the
volume of the hull and especially the type of rigging which
generally justifies name of the ship.
